Ava’s Story: From Pain to Purpose
“Your past may be part of your story, but it does not have to determine your future.”
— Ava Smith, Founder and President
Journey of Hope began with a personal understanding of how deeply abuse can affect a life.
Founder Ava Smith experienced hardship, trauma, and abuse during childhood. Those experiences brought pain, fear, anger, and a sense of disconnection that affected many areas of her life. For years, she carried wounds that were difficult to name and even harder to share.
Yet Ava’s story did not end in pain.
Through faith, healing, service, personal growth, and the support of others, Ava began to discover that recovery is possible. She learned that while trauma can shape a person’s past, it does not have to control their future. She found strength in choosing healing, seeking understanding, and using her experiences to encourage others who were also carrying hidden wounds.
Ava’s journey led her to volunteer with nonprofit organizations, lead support groups, and serve individuals who had experienced trauma and abuse. Over time, a larger vision began to take shape: a place where people could find support without judgment, learn practical skills, access healing resources, build healthy connections, and begin again.
That vision became Journey of Hope.
A Vision Born From Compassion
Journey of Hope exists because too many people suffer in silence. Abuse can leave people feeling ashamed, powerless, afraid, isolated, and uncertain where to turn. Some may believe that no one will understand. Others may worry they will not be believed. Many may not yet see a path forward.
Ava founded Journey of Hope to help create that path. The organization is designed to bring together faith, education, community support, life-skills development, prevention efforts, and future safe-housing opportunities. Its purpose is to help people recognize their worth, rebuild confidence, strengthen healthy relationships, and move forward with hope.
Journey of Hope also recognizes that preventing abuse requires more than responding after harm occurs. It requires education, awareness, honest conversations, community responsibility, and support for healthier patterns in families and relationships.
The past does not have to define the future. Ava Smith

A Message From Ava
“I know what it feels like to carry pain that others cannot see. I know what it feels like to question your worth, to feel alone, and to wonder whether life can ever be different. But I also know that healing is possible. It may take time. It may require courage. It may begin with one conversation, one prayer, one safe person, or one small step. Journey of Hope is here to remind you that you are valuable, you are not alone, and there is hope for a new beginning. My prayer is that this organization will become a source of encouragement, healing, education, and practical support for individuals and families seeking a better future.” Ava Smith — Founder and President, Journey of Hope
